You look around, and everything is new and different. To me, this is a sad reality that will hinder many generations.Īs an immigrant myself, I can tell you how intimidating it is to be yourself and unpack our background for all to see. While many of us love our home culture, our language, and everything about our heritage, society tells us that to function successfully, we must keep our background packed up and blend in the American culture and master the English language to be successful.įor many of us, it'll be years and years till we realize that our culture, language, and heritage are valuable and core to who we are.įor others, this realization will never happen - and heritage, language, and culture will be lost. I experienced this as well, and so do many immigrant students and individuals who come to the United States. In Dreamers, we see the characters trying to blend in and function in a new country and culture but with a substantial struggle to be who they are. And just like we see in her book, the objects that represented her identity were kept safe and packed up because they were being protected or perhaps they stayed packed up because she didn't feel like her individuality would fit in the new culture. Objects that she carried with her as she crossed over the Mexican border to come to the USA. If you follow Yuyi's Instagram account, you'd see how these objects represent her identity. We see how her backpack includes a jatana, a pencil, nature items, and Señor Calavera. Yuyi Morales narrates this personal experience perfectly in this image. Just like we pack-up objects, we also pack-up our identity within us and hold on to it as tight as possible because we know it is what makes us who we are. The things we pack-up within us are experiences, thoughts, feelings, beliefs, family, foods, music, culture, heritage, and more. Besides packing the essentials, many of us pack something that will remind us of the world we are leaving behind, representing our country, homeland, and believes. I do not doubt that many immigrants experience this moment when they have to decide what to pack and bring along their migration journey. I remember looking around the room and packing a few photographs and recuerditos (keepsakes) I didn't want to leave behind. Ive never had anyone take me up on that so, apparently people dont want to learn that bad.I was 15 years old when I was asked to pack-up a backpack with a couple of outfits and whatever else I could fit in and carry with me on a journey from Guatemala to the USA.
I know how to turn a computer on and use Word, and surf the web. When people try to teach me they assume I know what an OCTGN string is. I just dont know what to do, or how to do it. Just pack those images, upload them and grow the octgn community for this game.īut thats just my opinion:) Edit: especially as the first cycles are out there already.
I would like to add that if you are using the OCTGN software for free and using the images for free, a little effort on your part is a warranted cost to play. Having said that, I agree that it would be nice to have ready-made image packs, especially for busy adults. Others have offered to explain how to add images if you dont subscribe. If you use these images for other purposes, such as website articles, please credit the source.) If you subscribe to OCTGN, you can put each image into OCTGN by viewing its card in the deckbuilder and dragging the image from your browser to the deckbuilders card image area. When you get to 06, change back to 01 and increase the addresss first number.
To go to the next image, change the addresss 01 to 02, then 03, and so on. The last time I updated my OCTGN set files, I used the card images from, which stores its images using their objective set number and number within that set. If they actually labelled them the same as they are in OCTGN it would be dead easy, but really when you just save them to your hard drive you just need to rename them with the OCTN string. I blame my lower middle class upbringing, my household didnt even own a computer until 2001. I am not saving and drag n dropping a hundred images manually, no matter how easy.
